Current Titans on the Titan Experience

You can learn a lot about Eastern Florida State College through your high school guidance counselor, conversations with staff members, and even Google, but is there anyone who knows more about the experience of being an EFSC student than an actual EFSC student? (Spoiler alert: There isn’t!) We asked several EFSC Titans to share what has helped them in college, as well as to give advice to future Titans considering enrollment. Here’s what they had to say:

What have you gained from your studies at EFSC?

  • Attending classes at the college has really expanded my horizons. I was able to start viewing my personal and professional life from a unique perspective, allowing me to set smarter goals and plan my career.
  • Being able to understand the different components and dynamics of a business and all the effort that goes into it has enabled me to better identify my own potential role within an organization. This allows me to work towards my own advancement.
  • Experiencing real-life scenarios that I’ve been able to apply to actual work situations has helped me to determine better solutions to issues while building a solid foundation for ethnical business principles.

The faculty and staff at EFSC don’t just care about your success, but also about your well-being. What resource has been most helpful to you at the college?

  • Student support services like free tutoring are extremely helpful. Information about them is given to students at orientation and EFSC’s welcome back events. This helps us to develop a better understanding of what the college offers to ensure student success, as well as to develop relationships with faculty and staff.
  • Small classroom sizes enable better interactions with instructors in a remarkably diverse setting, which improves the overall experience while allowing us to share different ideas and opinions that expand our horizons.
  • Advising is a great asset. They can help with everything from registering for classes to planning out career paths. That enables us to line up our classes efficiently, which means we graduate sooner.

Planning will help you to be more prepared and comfortable in your studies—and in your overall college experience. What advice can you give to prospective students about college planning?

  • Don’t overwhelm yourself by signing up for too many classes at the same time. But starting as early as you can and taking advantage of the dual enrollment program can boost your performance in high school and give you an edge in college.
  • Take notes, as that will prepare you for everything that comes your way in college. Speaking with a Career Center specialist will help to train you on how to take notes efficiently, which makes studying for projects and exams a lot easier.
  • Consider not taking a break right after high school. Instead, start down your college path right away before life has a chance to get in the way. Getting back into the classroom after some time could be challenging for some students, and this will help you to stay motivated.

I would like to issue a special thank you to Anthony Crisafulli, Georgia Oak, and Viviana Padilla—all three of whom are in business classes at EFSC—for contributing to this blog post. To all the future Titans out there: A little preparation goes a long way in ensuring you have a fulfilling, enjoyable life in college. Don’t wait for the “right” time. You’re in control. You can decide that the moment to step up and map out your future is right now, and when you’re ready to do so, EFSC is here to help.
