Consider What’s Essential

Here’s some food for thought: you know you’re essential to your family and friends, but are you also essential to the workforce? What will the job market even look like in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic?

A lot of people are talking about how employment will change over the long term. Despite the best predictions, the truth is that no one really knows what will happen — but looking ahead and planning for the future are part of the EFSC workforce leadership team’s daily agenda. We work hard to offer programs that can prepare you for jobs considered essential in any climate. A new initiative slated to begin this fall, for example, is designed to rapidly prepare students for entry-level positions in CNC Machining, Electronics Assembly, Help Desk Specialization, Patient Care Assistance and Welding. Grant funds may be available to help offset the costs, and job placement support will be provided!

Due to the pandemic, the national unemployment rate is higher than usual, but the demand for skilled workers has actually increased in some professions. So, where does EFSC come in? Naturally, we encourage the pursuit of any type of higher education, but it’s worth noting that a lot of career and technical programs can provide increased job security in times of crisis. Here are just a few of them:

Let’s face it: no one was really prepared for this kind of crisis, but Eastern Florida State College is here to help. We work closely with local businesses and industries to ensure that the programs and certificates we offer are consistent with current workforce needs and that we truly have something for everyone. Last but not least, we know that COVID-19 has created financial strain on many people, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t still pursue your educational goals. There are many financial aid and scholarship options that can help, so please don’t be afraid to reach out — and remember: we’ve got your back.
